Special guest" at the FlavioLucchiniArt Museum on the occasion of the Super Design Show 2022, Clara Tolomeo, an artist of the Italian creative scene, debuted as a painter, but since 1997 she has devoted herself to chair-sculptures that soon became the absolute protagonists of her work and that she presents on this occasion, in a significant selection of extraordinary aesthetic impact, with a solo exhibition, "Never rest on my laurels."
Produced by Formitalia, Carla Tolomeo's chairs, sofas, chaise longue, dormeuse and poufs are all marked by an original and consistent creative iter. The first step takes the form of research into seating structures from different eras, places and styles, preserved in their entirety or in part in the artist's subsequent interpretation, who intervenes with new upholstery - in velvet and silk, also the subject of research when not of ad hoc realization - and admirable and accurate elaborations, completely handmade: fabric applications, embroidery, trimmings in passementerie, flashes of sequins. The results are unique pieces, with the utilitarian object becoming the "subject" of art.
The inspiration is a technicolor kaleidoscope that includes flora and fauna: from palm trees to maxi-sized roses, turtles, parrots, the fish and underwater universe. With an underlying, constant reference to Jorge Luis Borges and his magical realism.
