In Dubai, an enchanted journey of the artistic path of Flavio lucchini and his continuous research on the meaning of the dress.
Flavio Lucchini, artist and leading figure in the world of art and culture in Italy, has for many years a home in Dubai, a city that fascinates him and that has also inspired his "Skyscrapers", digital works that tell the patterns of a futuristic architecture in continuous evolution. The artist talks about himself in this city that surprised him so much in an exhibition "From Fashion to Art", an enchanted journey of his artistic journey and his continuous research on the meaning of clothing. A solo show commissioned by Oblong, art gallery created in the Bluewaters Island residential district by Emanuela Venturini and Paola Marucci, an artistic and cultural exchange platform between Dubai and Italy (based in Pietrasanta), in collaboration with MyOwnGallery, Superstudio's contemporary art gallery. There are many historical but also unpublished works by Lucchini, and the message on beauty is always constant, using different materials, media and styles, such as the totemic sculptures of steel or cor-ten, the bas-reliefs in white resin or covered with gold leaf, paintings, digital art up to the virtual materialization of large sculptures as an example of conceptual art, created with an app on the mobile phone.
Lucchini has never really abandoned his fashion. Leaving all his prestigious roles, he remains an obsession for him.
“The women’s dress can convey beauty, irony, boldness, eroticism and many other emotions. They have represented a major part of my life and I have never considered them as simple shells, from the divine haute couture dresses, to miniskirts, to the hippy, folk, punk dresses and even abayas and burqas, with their ethical and aesthetic implications. Dresses are a tool which the world can witness the changes and aspirations of society, together with the celebration of beauty, femininity and creativity.”
Lucchini saw trends fade with the passing of the seasons and wanted to fix them forever in bronze, steel and resin to save them and make them last forever. A world of his own, where the dress becomes the enchanted and creative emotion as it was in his time as editor / art director. Flavio's exhibition at the Oblong Gallery transforms fashion into art and brings art into fashion.
“I like to move from classicism to new pop, in a sort of direct line, right between Canova and Jeff Koons. I’m interested in the mystery and magic of fashion. To glorify it and at the same time to desecrate it”.
