Collective exhibition, Chiostro della SS.ma Trinità - Archivio di Stato Venice, 3 June - 31 October 2011.
Flavio lucchini is one of the artists selected for SIGN OFF DESIGN exhibition that mixes and taints the design’s creative and experimental language with the contemporary art’s shapes and suggestions, curated by Luca Beatrice. Flavio Lucchini presents a pearly resin sculpture, belonging to the series Ghost, that wants to be the story of a dress, or, better, a night that stays in memory, traces of the body that has worn it.
With the SLIDEart project, artists and designers will put on display the results of their collaboration with SLIDE, between material experimentation and aesthetic innovation, exploring the potentialities of resins and plastic materials, in the Chiostro della SS.ma Trinità, the prestigious 16th century location that today hosts the venue of the State Archives of Venice. On the occasion of the event, SLIDE will contribute to the restoration of the adjacent Chiostro di S. Antonio, whose works are currently under way. The exhibition-event takes place to coincide with the 54th International Art Exhibition entitled ILLUMInazioni–ILLUMInations and curated by Bice Curiger, whose main theme is about “the light produced by the encounter with art, about illuminating experience, about the epiphanies resulting from mutual connections and intellectual comprehension”. Such concept stimulated SLIDE to commission works where the interaction between light and materials plays a major role. Each work will be produced in unique numbered pieces (max 9 models), using materials such as polystyrene, fiberglass, wood and composite materials; it will be developed from a 3D mathematical model; it will be worked on a CNC machining center and it will be finished with an external lacquering or other technological systems. SIGN OFF DESIGN presents, among the others, the works by the designer Karim Rashid, by the main Italian figures of the postmodern change, such as Alessandro Mendini and Denis Santachiara, along with the elaborations by sculptors who usually work stones and metals, such as Giuseppe Spagnulo, Jean-Claude Farhi, Bruto Pomodoro and the Korean Park Eun-Sun.
