Solo exhibition, Milano Scultura - STEP ART FAIR, Fabbrica del Vapore, Via Procaccini 4, Milan October 7th-9th 2016.
On its seventh edition, Milan Scultura is the only Italian art fair dedicated to sculpture. The ambition is to create an event less as a fair, but more participate and interesting, an opportunity for the public and gallery owners to live sculpture as a medium that combines codes and languages, but mostly an opportunity to look at the world only through the artists perception.
Lucchini presents a selection of Dress Totem. Totem dresses, imagined as pagan idols. Divine presences. Symbolic shapes. Imperious figures made of iron, cast iron, steel. Tiny and yet big sculptures. To stay in one’s own living room as if in the scenery of a square or in a desert.
“The totems are ancestral divinities, found in prehistoric, African, Mexican culture and represent the inexplicable mystery of life. The fist time I imagined the dress as a totem goes back to the 60s: I was attending the fashion shows in Rome, when a very popular journalist started to scream enthusiastically in front of a collection: “Divine! Divine! At that time, I realised that in some way the dress represents a contemporary totem. The dress deifies, transforms, becomes a medium to transfigure the person. And this is also proof of an evolving society. The dress pictured by famous fashion magazines turns into an object divinizing the woman. If in certain occasions a woman feels or wishes to feel divine, perhaps just for one hour or a night, she knows that it is mostly due to the dress she is wearing. For many years I have grasped the divine side of dress and I have tried to turn it into an idol-object, a true urban totem celebrating our times myth. I chose to use mostly cor-ten as it can be used outdoor. It is a material invented by the Americans, that gets rusty but doesn’t corrode and that has unpredictable colours thanks to its mineral components”.
